Uzma’s Sewing Journey: From Sewing Socials to Skills Galore.

At Create and Sew Studio, one of the things I treasure most is watching our community grow - seeing people discover new skills, fall back in love with crafting, and find joy in creating with their own hands. Today, I’m delighted to share the story of Uzma, a talented and enthusiastic maker who has been part of our journey since just after lockdown.

Discovering Create and Sew Studio

Like many people, Uzma was looking for something uplifting after the challenges of Covid. That’s when she found Sew Confident Chorley, now Create and Sew Studio and booked herself onto her very first Sewing Social.

“I was able to use the space, equipment, and speak to like-minded sewers and crafters,” Uzma recalls. “From then on I’ve attended many of the classes - the Memory Bear, Intro to Crochet, and if I had to pick a favourite the Floor Pouffe, to name a few - as well as many socials and, more recently, the very first Sew Day Escape (a full day of sewing your own thing with like minded people)

Learning, Growing and Experimenting

Uzma’s love of sewing and craft has always been there, but she’s found new ways to grow her skills since joining the studio.

“I’m always looking for new techniques and other methods to improve. Create and Sew Studio has helped me progress and improve my skill set as a sewer and as a maker,” she says.

One of the things she’s enjoyed most is trying crafts she wasn’t sure about at first. “I had the opportunity to trial crafts which at first I wasn’t too keen on, only to find out how much I enjoyed them - like the macramé intro on the Bloom and Knot class, I made a keyring and a lovely dried flower arrangement in one evening.”

A Place to Turn Ideas into Makes

Alongside group workshops and socials, Uzma has found one-to-one tutorials invaluable.

“When I have struggled on specific stages of a project, the private 121 sessions have helped me progress and achieve what I needed - and much more.”

Her many fabulous makes reflect both her creativity and her growing confidence, from memory bears to pouffes and clothing.

Why Uzma Keeps Coming Back

For Uzma, there’s one thing that really makes the studio special:

“The main reason I keep coming back is really Dawn,” she says. “She is a kind, generous, and passionate businesswoman who has created an amazing space for the community to learn and create beautiful things. The studio Dawn has created is a really fun and relaxing place to be. I have heard many customers relay this sentiment.”

Looking Ahead

Uzma is excited to continue her journey at the studio, exploring new crafts, growing her skills, and sharing the experience with others.

“I can’t wait to see what’s next, and I’m excited by the many events, classes, and socials Dawn has planned!”

A Note from Dawn

It’s been such a joy to see Uzma flourish in her sewing and crafting journey. Her enthusiasm for learning and her beautiful makes inspire everyone around her. She is a valued customer and stories like hers are why I started Create and Sew Studio — to give people the space, skills, and support to create with confidence.
